ROC, it´s the given brand name for all the works that are made on Patio Baron.
The brand name is created by the initial capital letters of their architect : Roberto Orellana Castro, founder of the workshop.
The output of the workshop is the result of a deep research about the limits of each type of Chilean Stones: Marble, Red Jasp, Caoline, Hematite, Schlossmacherita, Lapizlazuli, Moscovite, Obsidian, Cuartz... In this way the result of the exploration creates a world that lies between art, space, time and geology. The process of creation is a holistic, a complete one. Since the stones are taken from each "quarry" along the big borderline of Cordillera de los Andes.
This means traveling, camping, and paying with sweat the hard struggle to take them from their original source. Stones are not only stones, the mean a journey, an experience for the artist, and from this point, the motivation, the sensitiveness to transform them into pure forms. Always a part of their raw expression, their pre-history, will be present. This trip talks about the volume of the pieces. The limit will be always the weight a man or two can lift over. The work of ROC, becomes a artisan work where the use of machines is limited to the basic.
The work of ROC will always talk about an human scale.
The Architect involve in the whole process is aware that his own vision would not be enough to fulfill the nearly infinite possibilities a stone can have. The workshop becomes open for foreign young apprentices to experience the limits of stone, at behalf of the master guidance. In this way the work presented are diverse, fresh and fulfill the statement of experimentation. Many stones are broken in this process, but this is not a problem, as the mistakes in art, may be the only original thing that the artist have.
